Fine Pet Portraits - an artist's blog

My name is Sandra Palme, I am a professional pet portrait artist based in the UK. I draw your dog, cat horse or any other pet in pastels, charcoal, coloured pencils or graphite. It is my goal to capture the pet's personality and essence as well as their looks. I know how much your pet means to you as I feel the same about mine! Two horse portraits started

Right, I mentioned two equine portraits in my last post.
There's the pastel head study of German Haflinger X gelding "Moritz" which I started a couple of days ago:

Then there's the pastel portrait of ex-racehorse "Carlitos". If you have a close look at the pencil draft below, you will notice that this horse's ears are rather unusual. The vet - who has only known Carlitos for a few years - suspects that he was very sick when he was a foal and lost the tips of his ears. This does not seem to bother Carlitos. He is a happy horse, enjoying his retirement with other ex-racehorses. Their owner is not into horse-racing at all but wants to offer horses like Carlitos, Simply Sharp (I drew her a few weeks back) and Otxoa (another Throughbred I will be drawing as well) a happy and loving home.

Boris the cat

What's the weather like where you are? A few days ago it was still winter, now we seem to be in the middle of summer. Phew! Despite the heat (well I mean we're in England so this IS 'hot'), I have been busy. Just finished the full body pastel of Boris the cat. I've also started two more horse portraits... but I'll tell you about those tomorrow.

Welsh pony portrait

The pastel portrait of Welsh pony gelding 'Romeo' - whose young owner is, believe it or not, called Juliet! - is finished. Here's a scan:
