WIN A PORTRAIT OF YOUR PET!

February 28, 2011

I donate several portraits to animal rescues each year and this is the first one in 2011. I’m donating a pet portrait voucher for an A4-sized pastel head study for a raffle hosted by New Hope Animal Rescue at a fundraising event in London later this week.

ALL profits will go towards New Hope Animal Rescue.

New Hope Animal Rescue is an independent non destruct rescue based in London, run by Liesa Clark & Niall Lester who together believe that every animal deserves a new chance at life and where possible they do their best to make this happen, thanks to a network of many rescuers.

To take part in this prize draw, please send a payment of £5.00 via PayPal to nialllester@hotmail.com for one entry to the prize draw (if you would like more than once chance to win then send multiples of £5.00 to increase your chances).

You can also win tickets to see Legally Blonde the Musical at the Savoy Theatre donated by www.lastminutetheatretickets.com and meet Carley Stenson (who plays Margot and used to be in Holly Oaks) after the show!

New Hope aim to help as many animals as they can and in particular animals that have been turned away elsewhere. They often take in animals in order to save them from being destroyed; they then place them into other rescue centres once a space is available. They help wild animals as well as domestic ones.

They do re-home animals wherever possible, including those that are in their own care, be it their own homes, their ‘rescuers’ foster homes or private boarding kennels, where they often have to keep many of the ‘death row’ dogs which cost £7.50p per day per dog!

They are limited by space, fosterer’s availability and financial help. They rely on donations to help keep saving the lives of animals.

Their vet bills are very large, as they endeavour to help any animal that needs medical help whatever the costs might be, and has seen them with bills during the course of a year running to a few thousand pounds!

Animals that New Hope consider not to be suitable to be re-homed, or animals that have not been able to find a home, whether it be because of medical conditions or behavioural issues due to abuse; live with New Hope staff permanently & where possible they find sanctuary homes for a lifetime of happiness and understanding of the particular animal’s needs.

Please support New Hope!

New horse portrait started

February 7, 2011

I’ve just started a new horse portrait, also in pastels.
The horse -  or pony – is called ‘Salvatore’. What a grand name!
Salvatore, who is owned and loved by a teenage girl, is half Haflinger, half Norwegian Fjord horse although he does really look like a Fjord – except for the star on his forehead.
This is the draft:

New cat portrait in pastels

February 7, 2011

I haven’t forgotten about you,  my dear blog readers! Just been quite busy.

Here’s one of my new portraits for you: a pastel painting of a lovely cat called ‘Dexter’. Sadly, he was killed in a hit and run a few weeks ago – he is sorely missed by his family (including a Springer Spaniel). He will never be forgotten!

Welsh pony portrait – Section B

December 30, 2010

I hope you all had a great Christmas!

I can now start showing you some of my Christmas commissions!

I really enjoyed painting these two beauties in pastels: a Section B Welsh pony mare and her foal, all ready for the show. These two always do very well in the show ring!
