Fine Pet Portraits - an artist's blog

My name is Sandra Palme, I am a professional pet portrait artist based in the UK. I draw your dog, cat horse or any other pet in pastels, charcoal, coloured pencils or graphite. It is my goal to capture the pet's personality and essence as well as their looks. I know how much your pet means to you as I feel the same about mine! Dream horse

Another 'experiment' on black velour: a grey PRE stallion. As the black actually shines through, I feel it adds a 'dreamy' touch to this portrait. I don't think I'd use black velour paper again but still enjoyed drawing this horse. Reference photo by Juliane Meyer.

Update

This is how far I've got today with the portrait of the PRE stallion. I have started working on his neck, laying down the darks. It is important to leave the light areas white at this stage as you won't be able to erase the charcoal if you make a mistake.
