Fine Pet Portraits - an artist's blog

My name is Sandra Palme, I am a professional pet portrait artist based in the UK. I draw your dog, cat horse or any other pet in pastels, charcoal, coloured pencils or graphite. It is my goal to capture the pet's personality and essence as well as their looks. I know how much your pet means to you as I feel the same about mine! Boris the cat

What's the weather like where you are? A few days ago it was still winter, now we seem to be in the middle of summer. Phew! Despite the heat (well I mean we're in England so this IS 'hot'), I have been busy. Just finished the full body pastel of Boris the cat. I've also started two more horse portraits... but I'll tell you about those tomorrow.

Thoroughbred foal full body portrait

A full body study for a change! This foal is a very young Thoroughbred X stallion and he is being drawn in pastels. Quite a small portrait on A4 but thanks to my new set of Faber Castell Pitt pastel pencils, even very fine detail can be achieved. Unlike other pastel pencils, these are not a problem to sharpen.

Chartreux tomcat in pastels

I have already started Al Capone's pastel portrait, a full body study. Unfortunately, the reference photo is rather small and Al Capone has his eyes half closed. Anyhow, here is a scan of the work in progress:
