Fine Pet Portraits - an artist's blog

My name is Sandra Palme, I am a professional pet portrait artist based in the UK. I draw your dog, cat horse or any other pet in pastels, charcoal, coloured pencils or graphite. It is my goal to capture the pet's personality and essence as well as their looks. I know how much your pet means to you as I feel the same about mine! Horse portrait started

I am currently working on a horse pastel portrait showing three horses. Two are Norwegian fjord horses and one is a Shetland X pony. Here's a (not so great) photo of the pencil draft. I'll post some work in progress scans as I go along.

The composition mirrors the fact that the two Norwegian fjords look after the young Shetland cross in 'real life'. The client was very happy with the pencil outline.

New horse commission

After several feline portraits - two of which I am still working on - it's back to horses. ;o) My latest horse commission is of a beautiful grey Thoroughbred x Irish Draught mare called 'Bea'. She will be drawn in pastels on A3 sized paper. I have just finished the pencil outline:

New cat pastel started

After spending most of the day sorting out website problems, I have finally managed to take a photo of the latest cat commission's pencil outline. It is a rather unusual pose and I'm looking forward to working on this one. 'Huepo', a German cat that ran away from home a few years ago and has not been seen since, will be drawn in pastels.
