Fine Pet Portraits - an artist's blog

My name is Sandra Palme, I am a professional pet portrait artist based in the UK. I draw your dog, cat horse or any other pet in pastels, charcoal, coloured pencils or graphite. It is my goal to capture the pet's personality and essence as well as their looks. I know how much your pet means to you as I feel the same about mine! Baby portrait in charcoal

I'm still working on my horse's character study and have done 3 of the small portraits and started the larger head study. It's coming along nicely and I'll post another scan soon. I have also been working on a new charcoal portrait. As you know, I love charcoal for my pet portraits and wanted to see if I might like it for human portraits as well so I decided to do a baby portrait. Well, I think I do like charcoal for any subject! I feel it's even better than graphite in some respects, especially as the contrast/tonal values are concerned. Here's a scan of the work in progress.
